Halloween isn’t always just about candy and costumes. The night and preceding weekend also play host to some of the most insane parties and festivals of the year. And while these outings definitely do pack some truly outrageous costumes, they also just ooze fun whether you decided to take part in the dress-up spirit or not.

If you didn’t have time to attend a massive Halloween fest this year, don’t die of FOMO just yet. You can still appreciate the grandiosity of some of the most unhinged parties out there. Whether your thing is the EDM madness of Insomniac’s Escape Festival or the chill as hell anything-goes vibe of Suwannee Hulaween we’ve got you covered with photos. Yes, these pictures will leave you feeling like you didn’t go big enough, but there’s always next year. Now is the perfect time to start planning!

Suwannee Hulaween

Suwannee Hulaween is an annual music and camping festival that takes place over Halloween Weekend in Live Oak, Florida. At Hulaween it’s all about care-free vibes and — you guessed it — hula hoops! Fire dancers and great costumes were a feature at this year’s fest and it looks like a fun time for everyone involved, so let’s all work on our hula skills for next year.

Minimal Effort: All Hallow’s Eve

Minimal Effort throws just two events in Los Angeles a year and both are worth going to if you love high-level production heavy dance music festivals. Of the two, All Hallow’s Eve has the added benefit of landing on Halloween, giving everyone an excuse to go the extra mile and come in costume.

Haunted Fest

Haunted Fest — held in both Ohio and Indianapolis — has a more casual vibe than some of the higher production music fests in this roundup, but that isn’t a strike against it. The vibe is more akin to a wild house party and sometimes those are the parties worth remembering. No pressure from the Haunted Fest crowd to go super elaborate with your costumes, come as you are, or buy a ready-made costume from the store.

At the end of the night, we’re all just here to dance.

Escape: Psycho Circus

We aren’t completely sure you need to add the word psycho to the word circus, they kind of go hand-in-hand. While we probably won’t find ourselves going to the actual circus anytime soon, we do wish we could’ve gone to Escape: Psycho Circus. Yes, people went heavy on the whole clown-circus connection, but despite the theme, this fest is full of mazes, costumed performers, and rib-cage rattling EDM, which is how we want to spend every Halloween weekend.

We sent our man Magic Barkan to explore the fest and he came home with these stunning pics!

Comic-Con: Behold The Cape And Cowl Of Batfleck From ‘Batman V Superman’

$

Last night was preview night at San Diego Comic-Con, and, as a result, everybody who could get in immediately sprinted to see what they could of DC’s upcoming Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice. OK, so it’s just a cowl and cape. But it’s still pretty neat.

First of all, it looks like Kevin Smith was completely full of s***, as the cowl appears to be your basic black and actually doesn’t resemble the outfit from The Dark Knight Returns all that much. If anything it looks like the 1989 Batcape, just with shorter ears. Superhero Hype photographed it from pretty much every possible angle, so you can check it out there.

Overall… it looks pretty good. Granted, they’re decidedly pretty conservative with this go-round. They’re clearly not trying to reinvent the wheel by giving him Kelley Jones-esque ears or anything. But at least we know Batman won’t be goofy in this one.

Shut It Down: This Is The Best ‘Pulp Fiction’ Cosplay Ever (Video And Pictures)

One of the biggest things on Reddit today is the picture above of two eerily familiar-looking guys dressed as Pulp Fiction‘s Jules Winnfield and Vincent Vega at San Diego Comic-Con. So impressive was their work here that I had to track down their identities and find more pictures and video. Much like Marsellus Wallace, we found what we were seeking in six additional pictures and a video. (And we didn’t even end up in a basement after chasing this stuff down.)

Jules Winnfield is being cosplayed by Elliott Branch, AKA juleshollywood. Vincent Vega is being cosplayed by actor Dave Colbert. We’ve collected some more great pictures of these mushroom-cloud-layin’ motherf*ckers. Here’s Branch making some special friends at Comic-Con.

MARVIN!?

And this bad motherf*cker is nailing Samuel L. Jackson’s intense glower.

This briefcase had better light up when you open it.

Branch and Colbert even do the casual version of this cosplay.

Did we mention Branch also does an impersonation of Samuel L. Jackson? Here he is getting a touch-up from Edward Scissorhands.

There are only 69 days, or 99,991 minutes, left until Halloween…OH GOD, now there are only 99,990 mintutes, and I STILL don’t have a costume. What am I going to do? Can I use my Ikea Monkey get-up from last year? No, I need something topical, something that people are definitely still going to be talking about in late-October (also, I should take that monkey out of his shoebox). Let me check my favorite website, Brands on Sale (co-funded by Darren Rovell, presumably), for some ideas. Oh, here’s one:

Eh, they don’t have any in my size, XXXL (it’s the sexy kind of obese). WAIT. HOLD UP.

And for only $40??? I’d be stupid not to. It’s a “serious illness,” but my diagnosis: HILARITY.

If this day is getting you down — and don’t look at a calender if it isn’t — have we got just the thing for you. Kiba The Cosplaying Corgi just cheered us up immensely.

When not dressing up as Mario, Raphael the Ninja Turtle, two versions of Link from Legend Of Zelda, Yoda, or Edward Kenway from Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, this adorable Corgi serves an even more valuable purpose. Kiba is also a therapy dog, and we can’t imagine a better canine to be a therapy dog than a Corgi wearing little outfits. How could anyone have anxiety or depression with this little cuddlemonster around?

Just look at that face!

Kiba, you’re famous!

You can check out more pictures of Kiba on Facebook. Thanks to Neatorama for the assist.

Even though some animals were pumped to hear about a new Jurassic Park movie, not every animal was enthusiastic about the news. Marv the dog just reluctantly celebrated his first birthday with an unwelcome Jurassic Park themed gift in a video uploaded by banditsVSbears, who says, “My pup Marv turned one today and was quite embarrassed about the gift I gave him. After watching the video, I couldn’t help but add some Jurassic Park audio.”

Everything in life could benefit from a well-timed melodica cover performed by Patrick T. Lo. Stuck in traffic? Melodica cover. Waitress carrying a tray of food that might be yours? Melodica cover. Somebody films something great as a f*cking vertical video? Sad trombone feat. melodica, with a guest verse by Pitbull to really drive home the tragedy.

Halloween is coming, and we’ve already recommended funny costumes for people, but what about our pets? Who will humiliate them, if not us? To that end, we’ve collected pictures of cats and dogs in pop culture Halloween costumes.

Let’s be honest. These cute little bastards have no idea who they’re dressed as, but they’re just happy to be included. Well, the dogs are happy. The cats are currently plotting all of our deaths, but they’ll look adorable when our uppence comes.

Yesterday we brought you 25 cute animals in Halloween costumes based on TV shows, movies, music, etc. But there were plenty of animals in costumes based around comic books, video games, and other nerdy media. Today we collect another 25 pictures of adorable dogs and perturbed cats in their geeky finery. It’s a good thing these superhero pets don’t have real superpowers, or we’d all be taken to task for putting them in little outfits.

These Cats And Dogs Are Ready For Halloween, Possibly Plotting Against Us

Earlier this week we introduced you to 25 cute animals in Halloween costumes based on pop culture, as well as some cats and dogs in geeky finery.

But what about the cats and dogs who have been coerced — through the clever use of treats — into wearing Halloween costumes that didn’t fit into our pop culture or geeky categories? Were these put-upon pets humiliated for nothing? No, we say! Let them have their day on the Internet, forever touted and remembered for that time they wore the lobster suit. No need to thank us, Lobster Cat. The look on your face is thanks enough.

Sia's “Chandelier” may be one of the most ubiquitous music videos of the year, and thus its wig-bearing, nude-leotard-wearing dancer — Maddie Ziegler — one of the most sought-after Halloween costumes this fall.

“Saturday Night Live” host Jim Carrey and cast member Kate McKinnon had exactly that thing on their mind, as they both showed up to a costume contest with the moves to match on tonight's episode.

Watch the video, for a good ol'-fashioned “SNL” dance-off to a fairly new hit. The two traipse by musical guest Iggy Azalea, too, who chooses not to stand by the bit, but be part of it too.

Halloween is my favourite time of year. The costumes, the spooky decorations, the ridiculously cheap post-Halloween jewelry sales I use to pad my daily wardrobe for the rest of the year. As much as I love the twinkle lights and cranberry-everything of Christmas, Halloween is my jam.

You’ve already seen Daniel Bryan’s predictably adorable Halloween costume, and the bevy of fans who dressed up as Ridiculous Turtleneck Dwayne Johnson. Ryan Reynolds Revealed Deadpool’s Suit In Fine Wade Wilson Fashion

Deadpool, thanks to fan love, is finally getting his own movie. Needless to say, Deadpool loves his fans. Somewhat inappropriately, if the official reveal of his movie suit is any indication.

See for yourself:

If you’re wondering why that image looks familiar, he’s not the first Reynolds to recline on a bearskin rug. Actually, this looks almost exactly like the suit we saw in the clip that leaked, and it is, of course, faithful to the comics. All we need now is a trailer, but in the meantime, just stare lovingly at that image. We’ll even set the mood with a little music:

5 tantalizing ‘The Force Awakens’ spoilers on display at Star Wars Celebration

Right now in Anaheim, California fans of Star Wars are walking amongst display cases that feature costumes and props from the upcoming “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” Luckily for the rest of us, they”ve been taking photos.

WARNING: SPOILERS FOR “THE FORCE AWAKENS” BEYOND THIS POINT.

Seriously. While Disney/Lucasfilm approved all these items for display, they each have a tantalizing detail that some could considered ruinous for their movie enjoyment this December.

Okay, here we go. All images courtesy of io9 (be sure to go check their comprehensive image list!).

*Extra warning: Please respect that many fans have not read fan sites. Any comments talking about what is “going to happen” based on leaks will be deleted.

#1: Meet the new generation of X-Wings.

The plaque next to it states the T-70 X-Wing is “the modern incarnation of a classic design,” and it is “the signature combat craft of the Resistance forces in their fight against the First Order.” What does this tell us? Based on Oscar Isaac”s statement yesterday that Poe Dameron is on a mission “from a certain Princess,” that seems to rebrand the Rebel Alliance as the Resistance and the Empire as the First Order. Whatever happened in the wake of the Emperor”s death, things did not shake out for our heroes like they expected.

#2: Someone replaced the Millennium Falcon”s satellite dish.

As I noted way back in the first teaser trailer, the Millennium Falcon is whole again. Only this time the dish is rectangular, making it less prone to removal in a tight squeeze. But if Han and Chewie did indeed fight their way onto the Falcon as the trailer implies, was it Lando who fixed up the old hunk of junk?

#3: Rey”s staff definitely looks like an electrostaff.

Originally used by Separatist droids during “The Clone Wars,” the staff was utilized during battles with Jedi Knights, as they were able to deflect lightsaber blades. But what would Rey need with that?

#4: The First Order may have created a new language.

This Snowtrooper (where are we going that has snow?) has some sort of writing on his chest but it certainly doesn”t match Aurebesh, the official common language alphabet of the Star Wars galaxy.

#5: Finn”s concept art has a very conspicuous piece of weaponry.

Yep, that”s a lightsaber. But does it belong to him or is in on the run from the original owner? Based on concept art alone, it appears to be the same lightsaber being handed off to Leia(?) in the new trailer. Is that a hint of silver? If so, that looks like a certain Sith Lord's lightsaber which was then passed down to his farm boy son…just sayin'.

A closer look at the outrageous costumes of ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’

$

The last time I saw Warner Bros. put together a big soundstage full of costumes for a film, it was “Man Of Steel,” and my kids loved getting the chance to get close up to Superman's costume or the twisted bank vault door.

At Friday's “Mad Max: Fury Road” press day, they had a soundstage set up for all of the interviews and then also to display some of the costuming from the movie. While I'm embargoed until May 12th on the film itself, I'm allowed to say that there is a remarkable depth to the world that Miller has created this time around. The budget for “Fury Road” is more than all three of the other films combined, and then some, and it seems like a lot of that was used to help build a physical world in which Miller and his cast could get lost.

One of the things I love about “Mad Max: Fury Road” is that Miller cast Hugh Keays-Byrne as the main bad guy in the movie, Immorten Joe. Keays-Byrne was one of the main bad guys in the first film, playing a character named The Toecutter, and having him back all these years later in such a different role seems like part of the way Miller loves to do things. After all, Bruce Spence played two totally different characters in “The Road Warrior” and “Beyond Thunderdome.”

There's also something impressive about the way Miller handles the visual effect involving Imperator Furiosa's arm. It's never the center of attention, and it takes a while before you really get a good look at it. He doesn't treat it any differently than he would a real arm, and that is so key in terms of making an effect feel real. The more you put it front and center, the more people get to look at it and question it. Seeing the physical model of it was interesting.

I can't wait to have the conversation about this movie as soon as it opens, and you can check back here on May 12th for my review.

“Mad Max: Fury Road” is in theaters May 15, 2015.

Charlize Theron Played An Odd Game Of Dress Up With Jimmy Fallon On ‘The Tonight Show’

Charlize Theron dropped by The Tonight Show on Monday to chat with Jimmy Fallon about her new film Mad Max: Fury Road. Things got a little odd when they chose each others’ crazy outfits for the above segment.

Looking kind of like Elton John, Fallon confessed he wasn’t too sure if he was supposed to be a man or woman. Charlize set the record straight by telling him he was a woman by the name of Rosetta McClintock. Apparently Rosetta McClintock likes to f*ck.

When it was his turn, Fallon informed Charlize that her character used to play bass for Prince and her name was Bonanza.

If only Bonanza would play the bass version of the Bonanza theme song. That’d be awesome.

It”s here! San Diego Comic-Con is upon us again. And what would a convention celebrating the best of popular culture be without cosplayers?

Super boring, that”s what.

While crowds are lighter on Thursday, all that means is it”s easier to spot and flag down a cosplayer and more room to take photos! There were the usual suspects: from Disney Princesses and Spider-Men, no fandom is left wanting.

It”s when people are fans of MULTIPLE things that it gets interesting. Disney Slave Leias and original creations were also on display.

After the jump, check out some of the best cosplay we saw on opening day! And check this space each night for a fresh crop of talented cosplayers.

Another San Diego Comic-Con has come and gone. And while we all must return our everyday lives – where seeing the embodiment of Death or a proper English Cthulhu on the street is out of the ordinary – the photos live on forever.

As always, the cosplayers came out in droves to show off untold hours of blood, sweat, and tears that went into accurately reproducing their favorite characters. From classic icons to imaginative takes on old faces, we were awash in creativity from all sides.

While HitFix Harpy couldn”t catch all of them, these were the best of the best we saw at Comic-Con 2015!

Deadpool and Disney: Two cosplay trends that took over Comic-Con

For four days a year, San Diego is transformed into a magical place that is basically Halloween for adults (minus the free candy). Hundreds of fans turn out in costume to show off untold hours of blood, sweat, and tears they put into perfecting their look.

For the final cosplay gallery of Comic-Con 2015, HitFix Harpy looks back at two trends that were everywhere this year. You couldn”t swing a swag bag without hitting another person dressed to the nines as Deadpool or a Disney/Pixar character!

Occasionally, the same person was dressed as both!

Dressing room montage throws shade on decades of superheroine costumes

There is a wide world of comic books out there beyond the looming shadow of DC and Marvel. It is easier than ever for indie publishers to find an audience or for writers and artists to cut the middle man out altogether. One such small print house is Black Mask Studios. Their motto is to support “and advocates for subversive artists” so it should come as no surprise they”d jump head first into taking decades of costuming options for superhero women to task.

WE CAN NEVER GO HOME by Matthew Rosenberg, Patrick Kindlon, and Josh Hood follows two American teens as they come to grips with their superpowers. After a deadly accident throws outcast Duncan and popular girl Madison together, they take a stolen convertible, a duffel bag of cash, and a fully loaded .45 and hit the road. But every hero needs a costume.

Unfortunately for Madison – and hilariously for the reader – ducking into a costume shop to find a new look is easier said than done. Especially if Madison wants to balance comfort with brand recognition.

This is the second round of tongue-in-cheek fun at the expense of iconic costumes by WE CAN NEVER GO HOME. The original printing took on the likes of Wonder Woman and the original Ms. Marvel. You can see those pages over at io9!

The Flintstones were there. The Star Wars crew and Kardashian-West family too. Side by side Cat and the Hats showed up a little late, but they made it. Everyone came out this year. Where the hell were you? The cereal box gang even showed up right around the time Olaf and Elsa did a surprise set. The full spectrum of outfits were thrown together with “sexy” and “sassy” continuing to lead the way, often in a skirt or just underwear (which is an observation, not a complaint).

As ever, college frats were… ugh, c’mon bros it’s 2015, do we really have to explain this? But, in general, people seemed to be more racially and culturally sensitive. What were the best costumes you saw? Clever plays-on-words? Incredible puns? Hyper-accurate celeb depictions?

This Cat Seems Really Psyched About 2016 Being The Year Of The Monkey

$

0

2016 is the Year Of The Monkey in the Chinese zodiac calendar, so YouTube cat hoarder 10 Cats celebrated by convincing a cat to dress as a monkey. Between this and drunk Don Lemon and Twitter roasting Jenny McCarthy, 2016 is already starting right.

We can’t help but giggle at this awfully patient ginger tabby cat named Osamu willing to go to embarrassing lengths to get a banana. How’d you let it come to this, Osamu? Then again, if the way my cat reacts when she smells banana cream pudding is any indication, bananas have the power to make cats temporarily forego any sense of self-respect and hurtle headlong into “I will wear a damn monkey costume if you give me that” mode.

At some point — perhaps when two other cats give Osamu the “what are you wearing?” look — this monkey-suited tabby seems to have a moment of reflection, an existential crisis almost. As if the cat is pondering, “Am I wearing the monkey suit, or is the monkey suit wearing me?”

Happy Year Of The Monkey, everyone. We hope the monkey suit doesn’t wear you.

The Power Rangers Have New Suits, Possibly Designed By Tony Stark

$

Lionsgate’s upcoming Power Rangers movie has already taken a few liberties with the source material. Elizabeth Banks’ Rita Repulsa is practically unrecognizable. So perhaps it’s not surprising that the rangers have turned in their Lycra and motorcycle helmets for something a bit more Tony Stark:

The idea behind these costumes, according to the designer, is that it’s alien technology that grows over our heroes as armor, not a costume they climb into. Which makes about as much sense as being stuffed into a singlet with a harlequin pattern, if you think about it. It’s also an interesting parallel with Repulsa’s new look, as she appears to have similar armor that’s gone wrong, somehow.

It’s easy to forget the original show was always a low-budget affair, having first been made for Japanese TV and then having American footage spliced in to carry the action for Western audiences. It’s also easy to forget that the show has had some interesting sartorial choices over the years, to put it diplomatically, although we’re still not entirely sure these aren’t just left-over Iron Man suits, which would be a heck of a crossover in of itself. We’ll see these suits in action March 2017.

New Power Rangers Costumes Feature Boob Armor. Because of Course.

$

0

The Power Rangers, much like comic book superheroes, are popular the world over. So it's no surprise a new incarnation of their costumes would garner some strong opinions from fans.

Seriously though, almost every Marvel and DC hero that's wound up on film or television in the last few years has gotten crap for their costume design. Iron Man might be the one exception which makes the Power Rangers reveal all that more interesting.

Entertainment Weekly got the exclusive reveal of the new costumes. They're still colorful but they're armored to the teeth. It…kind of doesn't make sense. Sure, fighters want to be protected in battle but the Power Rangers are known for their martial arts and it doesn't look like these armored suits would allow for much flexibility. EW reports:

The spandex-free makeover also helps set the film apart from other big-screen franchises. “It”s tricky finding a new language for a superhero costume,” production designer Andrew Menzies (G.I. Joe: Retaliation) admits. “Ours is an alien costume that grows on them, that”s not man-made. You can”t win everyone over, but we are trying to appeal to a more mature audience and gain new fans.”

You may recall the reveal of Elizabeth Banks' Rita Repulsa raised some eyebrows. Well, that's probably a drop in the bucket of what's to come for the Rangers themselves (just look at some of the responses on the reveal tweet). I was glued to my seat for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers when I was younger but I'm nowhere near the level of fan most die-hard Power Rangers lovers are. And they've got opinions.

The new look has already been likened to just about every other iteration of armor you can think of. My personal first impression was that they all looked like Iron Man. And well, when you put the red one front and center with a glowing chest piece, that's bound to happen (the Blue Ranger also looks like DC's Blue Beetle). Via EW:

The sartorial update may look radical, but the outfits are visual throwbacks to the franchise”s long-running mythology. “The show was about kids coming of age, about metamorphosis,” director Dean Israelite (Project Almanac) says. “These suits needed to feel like they were catalyzed by these kids and their energy, their spirit.”

But the overall look aside, I'd be remiss if I didn't discuss the female characters and their boob armor. Boob armor keeps happening on screen BECAUSE PEOPLE LIKE BOOBIES. End of story. I know. But two other recent female characters (coincidentally both played by Gwendoline Christie) didn't rely on form-fitted armor and are hugely popular – Game of Thrones' Brienne of Tarth and Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Captain Phasma.

Female armor does need to be shaped slightly different to account for size and form of the person but it does not mean vacuum sealed. Plus, as one armor-maker once wrote:

Note that nobody was naked under their armor. There was a ton of padding between the metal and the flesh that absorbed the energy of the blows. That means the difference between male and female plate armor is relatively trivial because once you've padded it out and left space for movement, you've all but erased the figure of the person inside.

And that's coming from a guy who's made boob armor for the visual effect but thinks it's a terrible idea in actual practice:

I worry constantly that she's going to fall hard and it will crack her sternum, even with the padding. Note also that it seems almost perfectly designed to guide sword points and arrows into her heart. They still have to penetrate the armor but, honestly, that's a design flaw.

Stop doing this, Hollywood! Men don't need armor tubes for their junk and women don't need boob cups. They also don't need wedge heels for no reason. The original Power Rangers didn't rely on making their characters sexually appealing in order to be popular, it's a shame the film feels the need. Hey, at least the Pink Ranger isn't wearing a skirt, right?

Equally important though: what is going on with their faces?

The Girl Who Wore A Hot Dog Costume On Princess Day Is A Freaking Hero

$

What little girl hasn’t grown up being bombarded with princess imagery? From a young age, we’re taught to express our femininity by loving pink, dresses, and waiting for Prince Charming to rescue us. These days, women may be expected to carve out their own independence, and the princess fairytale trope might have gotten a little feminist update with Frozen, but it’s safe to say that the princess fantasy is still pervasive in typical girlhood.

That is, until today, when pictures of a girl dressed as a hot dog at her dance class’s Princess Day went viral on Twitter. Above are some photos of this beautiful genius.

Spare me your pink tutus, or your shiny dresses. This girl has shown us that being a “princess” could mean whatever we want it to mean. She’s showing us to use our imaginations, think outside the box, be ourselves, and be free. If that means dressing up as a delicious foodstuff, then so much the better. Or if that means flouting princess day and its attendance baggage completely, we can do that too.

That first photo seems to depict this girl tap-dancing in the mirror. If I showed up to Princess Day as a hot dog, I would definitely be celebrating in a similar manner.

Here’s another great photo of the girl with her classmates and their basic princess costumes, from her father. Notice how she’s standing apart from them a little, like the folk hero she is:

I hope this girl never loses her independence or her sense of self. I hope one day to watch her being sworn in as president of the United States in a hot dog costume. In these trying times, she’s the leader that we need.

Still Looking For A Halloween Costume? Here’s A Running List of Our 2016 Favorites!

Halloween is tonight, which means two things: It’s the only night of the year when it’s acceptable for you — an actual adult with a job and responsibilities — to wander door to door begging for candy and there’s about a 98 percent chance that you don’t have a costume (yet). And hey, that’s fine! You probably went to a party this weekend and thought about how great it was that you didn’t bother dressing up because “how much work is that?”

But now it really is Halloween, and you’re feeling like you might be missing out! No concerns, no regrets, we’ve got you covered: From costumes you could make in an hour (in order to go out and snatch that sweet, sweet candy, yo) to costumes you’ll only be able to admire until next year (because they’ll take about a lifetime to make), here are some of the best costumes out there (we’ll be updating all day!):

Let’s start with this amazing Silver Surfer get-up that’s already made the guy wearing it a star:

Too complicated? How about this costume straight out of The Craft? It comes complete with one of those sharks that washed up on the beach about halfway through the film.

This Ratatouille get-up is adorable and probably won’t break the bank:

And here’s someone overrun with Zubat plushies:

If you want to go deep with the Pokemon GO theme, you could always start building this thing now (careful, there are so many moving parts!)

Got a pink dress and something to simulate a nosebleed? Congratulations, you’re now 11 from Stranger Things:

This one’s made for a kid, but imagine how much more powerful you’d look as a gigantic storm cloud ready to rain on everyone’s parade?

This one may be hard to look at after what happened on The Walking Dead, but no one’s going to claim you’re not scary if you show up dressed as Negan:

Is this the best Rick Sanchez costume we’ve ever seen? No. Could you pull it off with items you’d be able to obtain on your smoke break? Absolutely.

This group costume is incredible.

So is this Monopoly-inspired outfit. When’s the last time you saw that game make anyone happy? And you know you’ve got about a national debt’s worth of play money laying around:

Cut up a jacket and spray it gold. Now you’re a champion (who doesn’t apologize for cutting up jackets or spraying them gold):

You could do this hipster Khal Drogo outfit, but most people probably won’t get the reference because it’s too underground (or because they’ll think you’re trying to be ‘suburban Dave Navarro’:

Preeeety scary, but not too difficult to pull off if you’re willing to make some concessions:

We’re going to have to go ahead and see those TPS reports, please:

Terrrrrriffying:

Turk!

This is going to be the best Halloween. Everyone says so. The best. Huge. Hillary’s Halloween is a disaster.

Dare to be different…in a world of post-transformation Suicide Squad Harley Quinns:

Dare to be really different:

…or just really cute:

Or bring the picture that broke the internet into the outernet:

https://imgur.com/topic/Halloween/sGmtj

It’s not too late to be a fart:

Or demand “pizza pizza!”

But it may be a little too late to be “sexy Deadpool dressed as Pikachu,” which may actually be a blessing. We don’t need more than one of those around!

NASA astronaut (it helps if you have a parent in the space program).

Zoolander and random sexy characters is usually a win.

Pirates are always a win!

Today is National Ghostbusters Day, according to people who really want you to pay to see the movie again (remastered in 4K) in select theaters starting tomorrow. Since we’ve already ranked the ghosts in Ghostbusters, shared fascinating facts, read an infographic, checked out some cool swag, and watched the honest trailer, we had to find a different way to celebrate this totally-legit holiday.

We decided to bust out the fashion, collecting our favorite Ghostbusters cosplay (part two available here). What can I say? Bustin’ (out the fashion) makes me feel good.

Let’s Commemorate Nintendo’s 125th Birthday With Fun Costumes

It’s-a Sexy Mario, copying George Costanza from Seinfeld‘s “The Package” episode. [via]

Today is Nintendo’s quasquicentennial, which is a word I learned when my hometown turned 125 years old. It’s a fun word to call people, because they’ll think you’re insulting them. Nintendo was founded on September 23, 1889. Even though the company’s valued at around $85 billion today, it started as a small trading card and playing card company that branched into building pachinko machines (the original Plinko, long before The Price Is Right) and eventually released the first NES in 1983. In the interim, they built toys, ran a taxi service, opened love hotels (seriously), and tried numerous other ventures to stay afloat before hitting it big with the NES.

To think, back when Nintendo started, there were 38 states in the U.S. and Thomas Edison filmed his first moving picture. To celebrate Nintendo’s 125th birthday, we’ve collected cosplay pictures of some of the most recognizable characters to any Nintendo fan. This list is in no way exhaustive, but there’s no need to complain about that in the comments. Don’t be a quasquicentennial.

Here’s The First Look At The Uniforms From Paul Feig’s ‘Ghostbusters’

Kristen Wiig and Paul Feig

Paul Feig’s upcoming (don’t you dare call it Lady) Ghostbusters movie has been filming for several weeks now, which means we’re due for plenty of paparazzi set photos that will answer questions like, “What do these actresses look like when they’re pretending to fight ghosts?” and “OMG, is that catering truck part of a scene or are they, like, just feeding the crew?” Fortunately, Feig is a lot better at teasing us than most directors, so he cut to the chase today and gave us all a first look at the costumes that Leslie Jones, Kate McKinnon, Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy will wear when they take on a new all-powerful ghost that will presumably be bigger and better than Gozer or Viggo.

Now all you have to do is imagine the actresses in those costumes and it’s like you’re looking at the first poster for Feig’s (seriously, stop calling it Lady) Ghostbusters. Or if you’re one of the people who hates this idea, you can print this picture out, crumple it up, and throw it in a trash can. That’ll show them all for messing with your childhood.

Bryan Singer Teases The Original Comic Book Costumes In ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’

Although the San Diego Comic-Con is over, trailers, bootlegs and interviews are still pouring forth from the comic book and fantasy media frenzy. Case in point, Bryan Singer’s interview with Yahoo! News, where he took fan-submitted questions and answered them on camera. One of the more interesting exchanges concerned the look of the characters in X-Men: Apocalypse, and whether or not they’d resemble their comic book forebears.

The question, posed by X-Men: News, asks the director, “Will we ever see the traditional colored X-Men costumes in the films?” Singer responds, saying:

“The X-Men are sort of a fighting team, so it was always an attempt at being realistic to have them in fighting uniforms, flight suits, things like that. In X-Men: First Class, which I produced and wrote the story for, we harked back to the original colors of the original costumes from the 1963 comic, which were all the same — they were uniforms. They eventually evolved into the colors.

“But I will say in X-Men: Apocalypse, there is a chance, without giving anything away, that you may get closer to seeing what I think…you are interested in seeing. I know it’s something I’ve been interested in. I’ve just always wanted to do it the right way.”

Considering Olivia Munn’s story about lubing up to fit into Psylocke’s costume for the film, there’s a good chance what Singer refers to here isn’t just a throwaway means of getting past an all-too-often-asked question.

Let’s face it — when it comes to film fans, comic book aficionados are the best and the worst, especially if they feel a director has steered too far away from their beloved, tear-soaked source material. Why else would Ryan Reynolds and the Deadpool gang emphasize how faithful their film is to the comics that inform the film?

Surprise, Puddin: Here Are The Best Harley Quinn Costumes From Saturday Night

$

As predicted about a week ago, Harley Quinn was a major contender for the Halloween crown in terms of sheer numbers who embraced the character for their own (ideally) drunken revelry. In retrospect, this collective decision isn’t surprising at all. Indeed, ever since Suicide Squad promotion began, Harley’s been a crowd favorite. Men want her so badly, and women think she’s pretty badass with a sweet sense of complimentary color coordination.

The Harley fascination has persisted, and from revealing set photos to the film’s initial trailer, her immediate appeal attracted a wide audience. Although she’s inexplicably tied to the Joker, Harley is obviously a major ticket seller when it comes to the comic book-movie going public.

Here are some of the better Halloween attempts at a Harley Quinn costume. She comes with or without the Joker in tow, although I suspect the latter doesn’t matter too much. Perhaps the Joker is preoccupied with Batman, or maybe Jared Leto himself is busy method-ing the hell out of the entire production, but Harley takes the cake here. And you like cake, right? Here’s the best of the Harley cake from Halloween 2015:

Hey, Putin! Never has Harley Quinn been such an international diplomat.

We”re still almost a year away from Wonder Woman”s solo film, but her presence is everywhere at San Diego Comic-Con this year. 2016 is the 75th anniversary of Wonder Woman, and DC Comics has pulled out all the stops. From comics to television to film, it is the time of Diana Prince.

The centerpiece of it all sits at the DC Booth on the Comic-Con show floor. Costumes from the set of Wonder Woman in all their detailed glory. Four of the main characters are represented. But why take photos when you can take glorified GIFS? Below, check out what the women of Themyscira (and Steve Trevor) wear when going into battle (or maybe their fashion is just super militia-inspired?). Thank goodness Paradise Island has discovered a color palette that isn't 'sepia-infused grit' since the first group photo was released!

When IKEA isn’t saving adoptable pets or serving as a monkey sanctuary, they’re sometimes running interesting promotions for their fans. IKEA’s Malaysian division announced a contest for their Facebook fans, asking them to dress up as any silly-named IKEA product and send in a side-by-side comparison. It’s a joke they probably learned from the Makeup Transformation meme that was trending last month.

The winning cosplay won a $250 Grand Prize, which we strongly advise against using to buy the meatballs or the cake. Continue reading to see the Grand Prize winner and our favorites among the 20 runners up, who also won a prize: an IKEA gift card worth RM200 (a little over $62). We’re a little surprised nobody dressed as the ubiquitous Allen wrench.

Watch designer Jum Nakao create a ‘Marie Antoinette’-inspired dress out of Sofia Coppola’s script

Japanese-Brazilian fashion designer Jum Nakao is fascinated by paper. He sees the material as both “very ephemeral, very fragile” and, with the right words scribbled across it, powerful enough to change the world. So when the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences asked Nakao to create a piece celebrating the opening of its upcoming “Hollywood Costume,” the artist naturally went back to the page.

The assignment: Design and construct a dress inspired by the 2006 period drama “Marie Antoinette.” The result: A lavish gown composed entirely of pages from Sofia Coppola's script. In the below video, Nakao slices, curls, frills, and stitches the basic Courier-imbued pages into something worthy of the big screen.

Waxing poetic on the costuming art, Nakao says, “A costume is like a pixel in a picture. All of the pixels are important, not just the costume, the set or the lighting. When you are inside a perfect costume, you are not yourself, you are your character.”

Traditionally, after creating a paper dress and exhibiting it on the runway, Jum Nakao destroys the final product. “It shows people that their values need to be reanalyzed, that materiality doesn”t matter,” he told The Creator Project. “That is why we destroy everything, to show that there is something more important, something much more lasting than what people see and value at first sight.”

“Hollywood Costume” arrives as a combined effort between the Victoria and Albert Museum, London and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The multimedia exhibition's final show will he Academy will display 150 costumes, including Jared Leto's costume from “Dallas Buyers Club” (Kurt and Bart, 2013) – a recent acquisition from the Academy's Collection – as well as costumes from such recent releases including “The Hunger Games” (Judianna Makovsky, 2012), “Django Unchained” (Sharen Davis, 2012), “Lee Daniels' The Butler” (Ruth E. Carter, 2013), “The Wolf of Wall Street” (Sandy Powell, 2013), “American Hustle” (Michael Wilkinson, 2013), and “The Great Gatsby” (Catherine Martin, 2013). In addition, “Hollywood Costume” will showcase the Academy”s pair of the most famous shoes in the world – the original ruby slippers from “The Wizard of Oz” (Adrian, 1939) shown with Dorothy”s blue and white gingham pinafore dress.

“Hollywood Costume” runs Oct. 2, 2014 – March 2, 2015 in the Wilshire May Company building, the future location of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, at Wilshire Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue in Los Angeles.

It’s already October, somehow, so we’ve been rounding up entertaining costumes to give you some ideas (or just something to laugh at). Wearing The Classic ‘Daredevil’ Costume Was A Memorable Experience For Charlie Cox

$

Vincent D’Onofrio and Charlie Cox sat in for a Reddit AMA to promote Daredevil before it lands on Netflix this Friday, revealing a few interesting tidbits along the way. The biggest assurance for fans came from Cox, confirming the classic Daredevil costume.

This came up as the result of a question from Reddit user trekstark, also throwing in a little hypothetical about Batman:

Hi! Mr. Cox, did you prefer using the red Daredevil suit or the black one we have seem in the trailers? Also, who would win in a fight, Batman or Daredevil?

I love both of the suits. Obviously it was great to involve the John Romita Jr. black ninja costume but the day I first put on the iconic costume is a day I will never forget. I would have to back Daredevil against Batman but that may be because I am close to him now.

I’m sure plenty of people are going to zoom to an episode that features the classic costume the instant the episodes are posted on Friday morning. That’s where the true review for the show will come for some, all based on that costume. It can’t be much worse than what we’ve seen in the past, so I’m not worried.

As for the other question, I’d like to see Ben Affleck and Charlie Cox fight each other in the street. Have it play like some silly comic book movie turf war, all Jason Momoa’s fault. Photoshop the costumes on them like SNL did to Michael Keaton.

Behind The Viral Image: ‘Pug Man’ Tells The Story Behind His High-Level Dog Troll

$

0

A few weeks ago, I came across this picture on Tumblr and posted it on Facebook. Sometimes I do that, share weird/funny/incredible images with my friends, most of whom don’t get to spend all day dicking around on the internet like I do. “Pug Man” really hit all the buttons for me. It still makes me laugh every time I look at it. The amount of effort that seems to have gone into pranking a dog is impressive, and the look on the dog’s face makes it all worth it. It’s high-level dog trolling. Which is strange, yet also universal – I always find myself singing weird songs and performing impromptu dances for dogs or babies. Getting a reaction out of them is so satisfying for some reason. Plus, it’s a pug, which have more or less been transformed from ferocious beasts into the ideal butt of jokes through thousands of years of genetic engineering – like clowns we built so we’d have something to throw pies at. It says a lot about how much time humans spend solely on entertaining ourselves, and this picture seems like the logical extension of that impulse.

Soon after I’d posted it, a friend tagged someone who turned out to be the actual Pug Man in the comments. It’s rare that you get the backstory on the random images you use as a substitute for real connection with your friends (and people you haven’t seen since high school), and I thought, what an opportunity. Not that the picture itself isn’t worth more than a thousand words already, but I asked Pug Man, aka Mark Potts, if he could tell us a little more about it.

FILMDRUNK: First of all, tell us, who and why are you?

MARK POTTS: My name is Mark Potts. I live in Los Angeles and am a freelance editor by day, writer and videomaker by other parts of the day and night. I’m a part of the sketch group Heckbender, which you’ve featured before. I’ve made a few feature films, the last being Cinema Six, which is a film you’ve featured the trailer for as well as let us use a Filmdrunk shirt in. I like getting up early and I think breakfast should be eaten for every meal.

Okay, so I guess the obvious question I have to ask, since this is the internet…  ‘shopped or not shopped? Be honest, is this picture fake and/or gay? If not, how did it come to be?

It is 100% real. I own that mask, that shirt, and that pug. Though all were bought at different times. Here’s the original tweet by my wife.

(Borat voice) MAH WAHFE.

[Silence]

Sorry, force of habit. Where did you get the mask? Is the tongue part of the mask or is that your tongue sticking out of it?

I bought the mask after seeing it through the window of an Urban Outfitters. The man checking me out was very confused why I was paying $20 for it. As was I. The tongue is built into the mask.

Are you kidding? I’d pay at least… $29 – $35 for that mask. So, what’s the dog’s name? How many different takes did it take to get that perfect look of surprise?

Gizmo T. Pug is six years old, from Texas, and enjoys sleeping, eating, and reading Chuck Klosterman’s essays on Billy Joel. He was that surprised/scared the entire time. That’s the first picture we took. There is a second where I am looking at him and he hasn’t changed expressions at all.

As you can see, Gizmo’s reaction hasn’t changed. I felt sort of guilty afterwards, but I gave him a new bone and some bacon treats and he was fine. I imagine he forgot about it quickly. I also realized at that moment I think of my dog too much like a real person, which is an entirely different issue.

So was it your wife taking the picture?

Yeah, she took the picture.

What did your wife say about this? Was she in on it? Is she just used to these kinds of games? Have you done any other dog trolling?

Oh, my request for her to take the photo was met with a hearty sigh, but full support. I’m proud to say we are both fully aware of how absurd and slightly stupid or obsession with our dog is. He has a Twitter and a Facebook page and she updates those more than I do. Seriously. It’s so dumb. But pugs are better than cats and it’s something the internet needs to learn. And if we have to be the stupid looking people who lead the revolution, then so be it. History will be on our side.

Did you get any flack for “cruelty” from any of the online brigade of animal crazies? How many different places have you seen it show up? Oh yeah, and WHEN did you take the pictures?

Shockingly, nothing about cruelty. People always point out how scared Gizmo looks, but pugs sorta always look scared by everything. A few people on reddit seemed to be slightly upset by his look, but there will be people upset about anything and everything. I’m sure someone hates that we are using a typewriter as a computer stand in the background.

The picture was taken last August, towards the end of the month. She posted it on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. Then I posted it on reddit and that’s when it exploded. Now, I’ve seen it used all over the place. It pops up on random Twitter accounts. I know a few sports websites have posted it as “shocked reaction” pics. It’s popped up a lot on Instagram. I get notifications a few times a month from friends who see it. Instagram user thefatjewish posted it a while back and he has a huge following.

And of course, you comment on these posts and say, “Hey, that’s mine!” but you get nothing because many of these users have tons of fans and receive tons of comments as it is. And I’m not expecting takedowns or anything like that. I don’t want it taken down from anywhere, actually. I bought the mask for a feature, Spaghetti Man, my comedy group Heckbender is making and this was just a silly pic to show the guys what it looked like and it’s awesome the pic, and my dog, will live on forever, popping up in random places at random times. And I’ve learned I should probably watermark anything like that, but I also hate watermarks. My BS artsy side says it ruins the image, but my rational, business side says that is stupid. And it probably is, so I’ll watermark any pics that contain more than one image of a pug from now on.

Thank you very much for this. I think we did important work here.

Thank you. I really appreciate it. Finally, the credit I deserve!

These Horrendous Marvel Movie Costumes Could Change The Way You See Your Favorite Heroes

Marvel, at the moment, enjoys two movie studios that are carefully overseeing every aspect of its movies, right down to costume design. Modern technology and materials, backed by enormous budgets, let costume designers build superhero outfits for the Avengers that both look good and make sense. But Marvel’s heroes weren’t always so lucky.

The most prominent film studio fashion victim, by far, is Captain America. In 1979, Butch Deadlift himself, Reb Brown, starred in two TV movies that had him in a gigantic motorcycle helmet and unfortunately tight pants. In 1990, he got his official costume back, but unfortunately it was a little too accurate; since Cap’s ears stuck out from his cowl, the costume team stuck Matt Salinger with a hood that had rubber ears attached.

Closely following Cap is the Fantastic Four. The notorious 1994 movie, never released, based the costumes on the original comic, at least, but it didn’t have the budget to make them look good. The 2005 movie, on the other hand, did, and put them in shiny disco jumpsuits with inexplicably clunky boots. It’s still a better look than Doctor Doom, who has a coat that won’t even cover his steel navel, but not by much.

On the bright side, at least Jessica Jones knew her outfit wasn’t going to work. At least somebody in the Marvel Universe has a little fashion sense.

‘Star Trek Beyond’ photos have new uniforms, new tech, new aliens

Does anyone else feel like Star Trek Beyond has gotten a little lost in the summer blockbuster shuffle? With superhero season pulling the most of the attention, the Justin Lin director Star Trek film has been pushed further down the hype ladder. That”s not to say fans (including myself) aren”t looking forward to the flick! It”s just something I”ve noticed and wondered if y”all noticed it, too.

But with the release of Star Trek Beyond looming closer – slightly less than three months away – more information is being parceled out. For example, Chinese entertainment site Hi-Check got their hands on eight still from the upcoming threequel starring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, John Cho, Anton Yeltsin, and Idris Elba.

Google translate is sketchy in the best of circumstances, but one of my favorite mistranslations of all-time happens in this article. Apparently, Anton Yelchin starred in Corpse Control. A quick look at Yelchin's IMDB reveals the original author probably meant Bury the Ex. But now don”t you kind of want a movie about zombie buddy-cops called Corpse Control?

ANYWAY! Check out the eight photos below, including the cast in their spiffy new Starfleet duds, Sofia Boutella as the alien Jaylah, Spock holding an alien weapon(?), and more.

Star Trek Beyond arrives in theaters July 22, 2016.

Behold The ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ Cast In All Their ‘Vanity Fair’ Cover Glory

Let it be known that on May 23, 2017, the hype train for Star Wars: The Last Jedi officially pulled away from the station. One might have thought said train left when the teaser trailer for The Last Jedi dropped earlier in the month, but no. That was merely the whistle for everyone to get aboard. It is only now, with clear looks at the heroes, villains, and the General herself that we’re officially in motion.

Thanks to Vanity Fair, fans can finally get a long, clear look at Rey (Daisy Ridley), Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), Finn (John Boyega), Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac), Captain Phasma (Gwendoline Christie), General Hux (Domhnall Gleeson), newcomer Rose Tico (Kelly Marie Tran), and General Leia Organa (the late, great Carrie Fisher). Photographed by Annie Leibovitz, the four covers split the cast into the heroes, the Resistance, the First Order, and General Leia and set a tone appropriate director Rian Johnson’s darker film.

The covers give away little in the way of plot detail. Rey and Luke Skywalker are both still clad in the outfits they wore at their first meeting at the end of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. They are also clearly posed on the island where Luke went into self-imposed exile. The photo of Poe, Finn, and Rose shows only that Poe found a new jacket. I’m sure the casual way the X-Wing pilot has his arm draped on Finn’s shoulder will set off a flurry of fan fiction that I double-dog-dare Lucasfilm to make canon. Rose is also clad in “Resistance Brown” instead of the canary-colored jacket from her first look photo at Star Wars Celebration in Orlando.

Meanwhile, the villains seem relatively unscathed. Phasma survived her trip to the garbage chute with her armor intact. Kylo Ren’s scar has healed (if magically moved a bit), and Hux was never in the line of danger so of course he’s fine. And then there’s Leia. The late Carrie Fisher gets her own stunning portrait, a fitting symbol of her unique importance in the world of Star Wars. Without the last Princess of Alderaan, there would be no New Republic. Respect.

Be sure to check out the whole Vanity Fair article and keep your eyes peeled for more news.

Make Your ‘It’ Inspired Halloween Costume Count By Being The Best Pennywise You Can Be

Just like how Harley Quinn costumes were the hottest thing this side of Jack-O’-Lanterns last Halloween, It baddie and walking clown nightmare Pennywise is destined to be everywhere. Like EVERYWHERE. (Including your local sewer system.) When something becomes the year’s go-to costume, there’s an understandable amount of reluctance to go with the popular pick. There’s nothing wrong with bristling at going with the default option, but maybe don’t give up on playing Pennywise just yet if that’s what you originally had your heart set on.

Going with a popular costume isn’t bad. In fact, it’s a beautiful thing. “Creative” costumes tend to often be era-specific pulls too and there’s no rule saying you can’t add your own twist and touches if you want an It-inspired costume. Thanks to the brave cosplay warriors out there, we’ve already been able to see how all the little variations in makeup, costumery and presentation can bring out unique touches that can make a gaggle of Pennywises (including the Tim Curry version) seem more distinct than the Party City set.

To accomplish a worthwhile Pennywise look, achieving the chalk white look and strikes of red is key. You can show up in a co-ed Naked Lacrosse tee and sweats, but if your makeup is on point it would do a lot of the heavy lifting.

Touches like novelty contact lenses, prop teeth and appropriate clown coiffure enhance the look and give some welcome detail. There’s room for creativity and (more importantly) it’s not that difficult to track down or DIY a lot of these small but significant factors. Once you get across that you’re Pennywise with your makeup, there’s ample room for your own personal expression and interesting adjustments.

It wouldn’t hurt if someone in your circle of friends was Georgie or a floating pack of red balloons, but we can see every individual take on the character makes it its own limited edition variation. The inescapability of the Stephen King character is also a godsend for those of us that need visual aids and video tutorials to DIY up a look. Prince De Guzman channels a faithful Pennywise in the video below and it gets the wheels turning on little changes you might make.

You can hone the fundamentals of how to look like Pennywise courtesy of the excellent step-by-step makeup tutorial from Pinkstylist nestled below.

If you can get down with the clown (make-up), put the overall package together with appropriately sinister jester attire. Pennywise’s 2017 look is more old-timey than the 1990 version, requiring a look that’s more inspired by centuries past than a Dollar Tree clown costume. One major perk of the “new” Pennywise look is that the costume’s ol’ timey feel is something where you can get creative on how it’s presented. It’s a ruffled, off-color sort of look (without Krusty the Clown style shoes) and veers closer to American Horror Story‘s Twisty in its neck-down presentation. Think Medieval, Renaissance, Elizabethan, and Victorian in your approach rather than a standard birthday clown.

As is the case with any wardrobe homage, you don’t need to have the exact measurements of Bill Skarsgård to pull it off either.

Props are fun, although you’ll either have to be 1) committed to lugging ’em around or 2) be totally cool with potentially leaving things behind. Your smiling grease painted mug will be in plenty of pictures so it’s alright to abandon as required.

There’s an endless supply of It inspiration out there to guide you wherever your supernatural clown freak flag flies. Your Halloween look will be richer for it.

Kevin Feige Calms Fears Over Those Photos Showing Brie Larson’s ‘Captain Marvel’ Costume

Comic book enthusiasts and superhero design obsessives were left a bit baffled when paparazzi pics surfaced of Brie Larson decked out in non-traditional Captain Marvel regalia. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige knows about the pap pics and he’s easing fan fears about the superhero’s presentation in the upcoming film.

For context, here’s Larson sporting black and green attire rather than the more familiar red and blue scheme. It is a bit Meteor Man come to think of it.

Chatting with Vulture, Feige gave an explanation (kinda) of what to take away from those images tumbling out into the world. He emphasizes that context is key.

If you want to film out in public — and Captain Marvel has a lot of scenes that will be shot on location — it’s gonna happen,” said Feige. “Everything is filmed [by paparazzi] nowadays, so years ago, we decided, ‘If it’s gonna happen, let it happen.’ Most people are savvy enough to know they’re looking at a behind-the-scenes photo, completely out of context. So we don’t do things like rush photos. We released some concept art of her with different colors. People online have correctly identified what’s going on there.”

He also addressed the ever-increasing swell of female talent in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Black Panther‘s colossal success complete with raves for Danai Gurira’s Okoye, Lupita Nyong’o’s Nakia, and Letitia Wright’s Shuri has only added to the roster of impressive women in the MCU.

“It is an embarrassment of riches,” Feige told Vulture. “Even watching the audience at the Black Panther premiere respond to Lupita, Letitia, and certainly Danai in their action sequences … you watch Danai spinning around in that casino, taking out dozens of people, and you go, ‘Of course you can make a whole movie about that!’”

Avengers: Infinity War is the next Marvel film on the horizon and it is set to hit theaters on May 4.
